Multiculturalism is an important issue in early childhood education because it is important for each child to build a positive sense of self, and to respect the cultural diversity in others. In 1992, Crayola introduced Multicultural Crayons in response to feedback received from consumers and educators. The colors were chosen from our standard selection and represent skin tones of the world. Black and white are included for blending in other colors. Over the years, the product line has expanded and includes markers, colored pencils, paint and Model Magic.
At Crayola, we are committed to diversity and inclusion. It's an integral part of Crayola’s mission to help parents and educators raise creatively alive kids. This is what inspired us to launch our most inclusive product line to date, Colors of the World Crayons in 2020. While developing the product, we conducted rigorous, multi-stage and racially and ethnically diverse testing with parents and teachers, and consulted skin tone and diversity and inclusion experts. We believe that if we enable kids with the power to accurately create themselves and the world around them, we can enable a more inclusive world.
