Sojourner Truth's real name was Isabella Baumfree. She was born in 1797 to enslaved parents, and was one of 13 children. She experienced a spiritual revelation that inspired her to change her name and become a travelling preacher. She also spoke out about women's rights. Truth worked to end slavery until failing health forced her to retire.
